The study aims to describe the social problems in Laut Bercerita novel by
Leila Salikha Chudori through sociology literature. This study is a qualitative. The
data of this study were in the from of texts or quotations that contained social
problems in the novel of Laut Bercerita. The source of data was the novel of Laut
Bercerita by Leila Salikha Chudori. This study employed literary sociology approach.
The results demonstrated that the social problems contained in the novel of Laut
Bercerita included, (a) poverty, in the form of absolute and relative poverty, (b) crime,
in the form of intimidation and torture, (c) family disorganization, in the form of
divorce and family crisis, (d) violation of community norms, in the from of speaking
harsh words and free sex, (e) the problems of the younger generations in society, in
the form of attitudes of dilenuity and vandalism, (f) environmental promblems. The
factors causing social problems included, (1) economy, (2) biology, (3) culture, (4)
psychology. The six social problems and the four factors that caused promblems were
an entity that related to each other so that the problrms in the social environment of
the community occurred.
