Abstract

Background: Purslane herb (Portulaca oleracea L) contains several main compounds, namely flavonoids, alkaloids, and omega 3 which are compounds that can cure inflammation. Hydrogel is a hydrophilic polymer network that is able to absorb water but does not dissolve due to cross-linking. Objective: To determine the anti-inflammatory effect with a minimal effective dose as an anti-inflammatory against wistar strain rats and to determine the effect of variations of purslane herb ethanol extract and base on the physical properties of hydrogel preparations. Methods: Purslane herbs were extracted by maceration method using 70% ethanol solvent by immersion and evaporation until a thick extract was obtained. The purslane herb ethanol extract obtained was made in the form of hydrogel with three different concentrations, namely 2.5%, 5%, and 7.5% and ointment base as a negative control. The inducer used is carrageenin. Determination of the anti-inflammatory effect was carried out using a caliper to measure the thickness and volume of rat foot edema. Results: It was found that 2.5%, 5% and 7.5% purslane herb ethanol extract hydrogel preparations had an anti-inflammatory effect with a decrease in the thickness and volume of the rat's paws. Conclusion: The hydrogel preparation of purslane herb ethanol extract with a small concentration already provides an anti-inflammatory effect and the greater the concentration of purslane herb ethanol extract the greater the anti-inflammatory effect.
