Abstract

This research was conducted to know the students’ perception towards role play in
speaking class. This research used questionnaire and interview as the data
collection. The subject of this research were students at the 11th grade of language
class in SMA N 1 Randudongkal. There were 34 students as the subject of this
research, that had filled questionnaire, and then 4 students as the interviewee in the
interview session. Data from questionnaire were analyzed with the result as follow,
generally students had positive perception toward role play in learning speaking,
with the mean score of 2.87. More specifically, students also had positive
perception in all three aspects in role play namely behavior with the mean score of
3.15, cognitive with the means score of 2.75, and followed by affective with the
mean score of 2.7. The reason of the positive perception toward role play in
speaking class were that the role play could make the students to do speaking
actively, it also could make them understand the speaking material, and it could
make them felt enjoy and interested.
