Abstract

Speaking ability indicates that the learner knows how they use that
language. However, speaking a foreign language is not an easy ability to
be mastered by students. This research was aimed to find out the effect
on the application of Three-Step Interview technique to the 7th grade of
Junior High School. This was quasi experimental study with single-testdouble-
trial (pre-test & post-test). The population was the 7F and 7 G
who have had almost the same ability in the academic year 2018/2019.
Live monologue was used as the speaking test (students told the topic
given unaccompanied). T-test was used for analysing the data. In the end
the result revealed that t-value (1.361) was higher than statistical value
of t-table (1,297). Hence the students who were taught using Three-Step
Interview technique had better procuration in speaking ability rather than
those who were not taught using the technique. So the hypothesis says
that the application of Three-Step Interview technique is effective for
teaching was accepted.
