Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out was Modified Monopoly Game as
a media of teaching for teaching speaking effective or not. This research was
conducted in SMP N 02 Bumijawa in academic year 2017 / 2018. The participants
of this research were the seventh grade students. There were two classes of which
class A was used as the experiment class and class B was used as the control
class. Test was used in collecting the data for this research, namely pre-test and
post-test. The test consisted of two kinds of speaking activity, interactive speaking
and interview. Based on the computation, t-test result was 3.75 and the result of rtable
at the significant level at 0.025 with the degree of freedom 57 was 2. Thus,
the calculation of t-obtained was higher than t-table (3.75 > 2). Based on the
research result, it showed that Modified Monopoly Game was effective for
teaching speaking of seventh grade students in SMP N 02 Bumijawa in academic
year 2017/2018.
