Abstract

The aim of the research was to find out the effectiveness of songs to teach English vocabulary for elementary student of SD N 1 Kracak, Ajibarang.
This research used the experimental method; the populations of this research were all of the fifth year students of SD N 1 Kracak Ajibarang in academic year 2009/2010 and the sample were class V A (experiment class) and class V B (control class).
In collecting the data, the researcher used tests, namely pre-test and post-test. They were in the form of multiple choice and essay test. The pre-test was carried out in September 2009, and the post test was in October 2009. The treatments were implemented five times in September until October 2009.
After collecting the data, it was found that songs gave significant effect in teaching English Vocabulary. T-test result was 4.13, the value in the level of significance 0.05 and d.f 58 was 1.672, while in the level 0.01 was 2.392. it showed that t-test result was higher than t-table (4.13>2.392). Therefore, songs were effective in teaching English vocabulary to fifth grade students of SD N 1 Kracak, Ajibarang, and Academic year 2009/2010.
