The research titled "Architecture of the Traditional Community Buildings
in Jalawastu Cultural Village, Brebes (1990-2023)" aimed to (1) explain the profile
of Jalawastu Cultural Village from 1990 to 2023, (2) describe the condition of the
Jalawastu traditional community, and (3) analyze the factors of architectural
changes in Jalawastu Cultural Village and the cultural values contained within.
This research utilized historical research methods, which included four steps: (1)
Heuristics, collecting sources using interviews, observations, and documentation;
(2) Criticism, examining sources through interviews, observations, and
documentation; (3) Interpretation of the data; and (4) Historiography, the stage of
writing history. The results of the research titled "Architecture of the Traditional
Community Buildings in Jalawastu Cultural Village" were: (1) The condition of
traditional houses in Jalawastu was very simple and far from modernity, primarily
due to the downward-sloping terrain in Jalawastu. (2) The effect of modernization
must be considered through customary agreements to ensure that cultural values
and philosophies are not abandoned. (3) The symbols and philosophical values in
the traditional houses of Jalawastu were still well-maintained, with strict
prohibitions on the design of interiors and buildings.
