Abstract

The characteristics of today's students are a lack of independence and also
a lack of creativity. They are used to very directed instruction without much
opportunity to explore or take their own initiative and thus become less
independent. The presence of a driving teacher seems to be an oasis in the desert
whose presence is awaited by students and other stakeholders because they are
formed as creative and innovative learning leaders. The aim of this research is to
describe the general picture of the independent and creative character of students,
describe the driving teachers in making efforts to improve the independent and
creative character of students and describe the effectiveness of the implementation
results of driving teachers in improving the independent and creative character of
students in several elementary schools in Banyumas Regency
The research was carried out using qualitative descriptive analysis
techniques with a case study approach carried out using interviews, observations
and documentation studies where the validity of the data was triangulated, both
source and technique triangulation. The subjects in this study used driving teacher
informants who came from ten public and private elementary schools representing
each sub-district in the Banyumas Regency area.
The results of this research are that the independent and creative character
of students in Banyumas Regency still tends to be low as evidenced by them still
forgetting to bring textbooks, forgetting to do their homework and still liking to
cheat. Efforts made by driving teachers to improve the independent and creative
character of students are by implementing self-awareness, using scaffolding
techniques and coaching practices, differentiated learning and HOTs-based
learning with the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model which is integrated with co-curricular learning with the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5)
with the theme of entrepreneurship, unity in diversity, sustainable lifestyle and
local wisdom. The activities implemented by the driving teacher informant were
very effective in improving the independent and creative character of students
where they had experienced many changes. This positive change in character was
also felt by their parents at home. Therefore, parents also support the activities
carried out by driving teachers at their school.
