Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine the language learning
strategies in listening conducted by students who are members of the English Club
at a high school in Purwokerto. This research used descriptive quantitative method
with 20 students involved in this research. The data were collected through a
closed questionnaire adapted from Setiyadi (2016). To determine student
responses, data analysis was carried out using 5-Likert scale. The results of this
research found three language learning strategies in listening used by students
who joined the English Club, namely cognitive strategies, metacognitive
strategies, and social strategies. Of the three strategies, the most widely used was
the social strategy with a score of 4.25, followed by the cognitive strategy with a
score of 3.78, and finally the metacognitive strategy with a score of 3.683. This
research is expected to provide information for students and teachers to facilitate
students in optimalizing learning strategies.
