This study aims to describe the ecranization process through the aspect categories of
adding and shrinking. The Dilan film 1990, directed by Fajar Bustomi, is an adaptation of
the Pidi Baiq novel Dilan, Dia adalah Dilanku. The purpose of this research is to identify
and describe the distinctions between the two works. Descriptive qualitative research
methodology is employed in this study. The novel Dilan Dia adalah Dilanku 1990 by Pidi
Baiq and the script for the Fajar Bustomi film Dilan 1990 served as the primary data
sources in this study. The focus of this study is a comparison of novels and films. Data were
collected through note-taking and listening techniques. The analysis methods employed
were (1) comparing the novel and movie transcripts, and (2) figuring out the ecranization
procedure. The findings of the study indicate that the ecranization process in the Dilan
1990 picture involves both adding and shrinking. Film adaptations of novels can be shrunk
by removing or decreasing their content. Additions occur as new stories are introduced in
the film.
