Abstract

The development of teaching media is a basic need in an effort to increase students' understanding of reading comprehension. This study aims to: (1) describe the needs of the Mini-Book Teaching Media according to the perceptions of students and educators, (2) describe the reading comprehension validation assessment that will be developed, (3) produce a prototype of the Mini-Book Teaching Media, (4) determine the effectiveness mini-book teaching media that was developed. This research is a development research (R&D). In this study, seven processes were used, namely: (1) potential and problem analysis, (2) information collection, (3) product design, (4) design validation, (5) design revision, (6) product trial (7) product revision, (8) use trial.
The results obtained from this study are the need for teaching media according to the perceptions of students and educators covering four aspects (a) aspects of content/material, (c) aspects of teaching media presentation, (c) graphic aspects, and (d) linguistic aspects. Based on the analysis of the validation expert assessment before the revision of the teaching media, the results of the content/material were 81.3%, the presentation aspect was 85, 41%, the graphic aspect was 75% and the linguistic aspect was 81.2%. Then after the revision, the content/material aspect is 96, 42%, the presentation aspect is 93, 7%, the graphic aspect is 95% and the linguistic aspect is 95, 83%. The results of the t test showed a significance value of <0.05.
The conclusion of this study is that there is a significant difference between the control class and the experimental class using the Mini-Book Teaching Media before and after the revision. So that it proves that the mini-book is effective to be used as a learning medium.
