Abstract
Reading ability is the initial stage for children to learn reading, which is related
to their first efforts to understand written language. However, it is not uncommon
for first-grade students to experience difficulties in reading and writing activities.
Through reading activities, students will be able to comprehend learning
materials effectively. broaden their horizons, and expand their vocabulary as a
means of expressing useful ideas to develop cognitive abilities and enhance
imagination. Therefore, a student must master good reading skills. Based on
research conducted with first-grade teachers at SD Negeri Ciberem, it has been
found that the difficulties experienced by each student vary from one to another.
In such circumstances, educators, parents, or adults close to the child need to
provide assistance and support to ensure that the child facing reading difficulties
receives appropriate intervention promptly. Both external and internal factors
contribute to reading abilities in SD Negeri Ciberem students. External factors
include educators, school, and family. Internal factors stem from within the
students themselves, such as a lack of motivation to study due to the influence of
online games. The results of this research will be presented in descriptive form
based on statements from the school principal, teachers, and students. After
conducting observations and interviews with first-grade teachers, second-grade
teachers, and first-grade students, as well as documenting the outcomes, data
about the difficulties in early reading among first-grade students at SD Negeri
Ciberem were obtained. Analysis of 5 students revealed that all 5 students faced
difficulties in early reading. In early reading, most students require the
experience of connecting their concepts with their surroundings. Such experiences
can be gained through guidance from adults around them and studying at home.
However, children who encounter challenges in their readiness to read often do
not review lessons at home due to the lack of guidance during their study time.
