Abstract

This descriptive qualitative research described the application and the challenges of using Google Classroom as the remote learning media in MI Muhammadiyah Kramat. The data were collected using observation, interviews, and documentation.
The observation was done in MI Muhammadiyah Kramatdirectlu, the interview was
conducted with the school principal, 6 classroom teachers, and 2 subject teachers, and supported by the documentation. The data were then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The resuJts showed that the classroom teachers of first and second grade switched from Google Classroom to WhatsApp Group, the classroom teachers of second, fourth, fifth, and sixth used Google Classroom, while the physical education and religion teacher used WhatsApp Group or Google
Classroom based on the subject they teach. The use of the platforms included teachers opening the class by greeting the students, checking the students' attendance via WhatsApp Group, and giving instruction to access the Google Classroom. Whilst teaching, the teachers used the feature of Material to deliver the material and the photo of the textbook/students worksheet and video link as the teaching materials. The teachers provided no discussion during the learning process. Meanwhile, the assessment was done through the feature of assessment on Google Classroom. It was concluded that the teachers were able to use the features
available on Google Classroom well. However, there were obstacles faced by the teachers which included the parents' complaints about the Google Classroom Appliaetion, the parent's job, and limited internet quota. The effects included the students' tardiness in receiving and submitting the assignment.
