This research aimed to describe the level of hegemony in a novel entitled Gadis Kretek written by Ratih Kumala.This was a descriptive qualitative research with the sociology of literature approach. The research data were collected using the reading and noting technique then they were analyzed through several stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results of the research are (1) Total/integral hegemony includes the hegemony of (a) the older sibling toward the younger sibling, (b) Sergeant Sentottoward the people, (c) the female lover toward the male lover, (d) the future parents-in-law toward the future child-in-law, (e) the husband toward the wife, (f) the foreman toward the kretek workers. (2) Decadent hegemony includes the hegemony of (a) the mothers toward the children, (b) the older sibling toward the younger sibling, (c) the fathers toward the children, (d) the Japanese colonials toward the people, (e) the Indonesian Military toward the people. (3) Minimum hegemony includes the hegemony of the younger sibling's resistance toward the older sibling.
