The study aimed to describe the students' mathematical connection ability
of students viewed from the intuitive-sensing personality type at eighth-grade of
SMP Negeri 1 Patikraja. This was a descriptive qualitative study with a purposive
sampling technique. Based on the personality type test, the students were grouped
into 2 personality types, namely the sensing and intuitive. Three students were
selected to be respondents for each personality type. The data were collected using
tests and interviews. The data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman
model which included data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion.
The
results showed that (1) students with the sensing personality type could connect
concepts in the same material and concepts in mathematics and had not been able
to connect mathematical concepts in solving problems of daily life. (2) Students
with intuitive personality types could connect concepts in the same material
and
concepts in mathematics and can connect mathematical concepts in solving
problems of daily life.
