Abstract
Meme (read mim) is a widespread phenomenon on several social media platforms, such as Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. History has also begun to appear in the development of memes, and several History Education students from FKIP UMP often upload on social media. The study aimed to determine the development of memes on social media, the types of historical memes that developed on social media, and the students' perceptions of History Education FKIP UMP 2018-2022 academic year regarding the phenomenon of historical memes on social media. The study used qualitative descriptive words as the data and produced descriptive information. Primary data was obtained from interviewing 15 children and distributing questionnaires in the 2018-2020 class, and secondary data were obtained from previous studies. The findings revealed that memes emerged and developed on social media in 1982, while the types of memes were divided into historical memes on cultural, social, economic, and political themes. This positive perception can increase indirect or negative historical learning by producing jokes and unclear meanings related to historical developments on social media.
