This study aims to describe the types and factors that cause inner conflict in the main character in the novel Layla: Seribu Malam Tanpamu by Candra Malik. This research is a qualitative descriptive study with the object of researching the inner conflict of the main character in the novel Layla: Seribu Malam Tanpamu by Candra Malik. The approach used is literary psychology. The data in this study are texts in the form of words, sentences, and expressions that contain the inner conflict of the main character in the novel Layla: Seribu Malam Tanpamu by Candra Malik. The data source used in this research is the novel Layla: Seribu Malam Tanpamu by Candra Malik. Data collection techniques in this study used reading and note-taking techniques. The data analysis technique in this study is divided into three steps, are data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing techniques. The results of the research and discussion in this study show that the phenomenon of inner conflict and the factors that cause inner conflict occur in the characters in the novel Layla: Seribu Malam Tanpamu by Candra Malik. The phenomena of symptoms of inner conflict that are studied through a literary psychology approach found by the researcher are, (1) approach-approach conflict, (2) avoidance-avoidance conflict, (3) approach-avoidance conflict, and (4) multiple approach-avoidance conflicts. While the phenomena that cause the main character's inner conflict in the novel Layla: Seribu Malam Tanpamu by Candra Malik that the researchers found were, (1) self-perception, (2) early deprivation and trauma, (3) inadequate parenting, (4) Pathogenic family structure, (5) childhood trauma. Early deprivation is divided into two, are (a) institutionalization and (b) deprivation at home.
