The purpose of this research is to find out the socio-cultural conditions of the people of Central Sokaraja Village, to explain the development of batik in Kauman Hamlet, and to explain the meaning of Batik Motifs and their uses. The stages of research used are historical methods, namely, 1. Heuristics (Stage of finding and collecting sources). 2. Criticism, criticism in this stage is divided into two, namely external criticism (criticism from the outside/authenticity of the source) and internal criticism (criticism in terms of credibility/reliability of the source). 3. Interpretation, namely interpreting and compiling data. 4. Historiography is the stage of writing history. The results of this study are known that Batik has begun to spread in the Sokaraja area from 1830 during the Diponegoro war, namely the Javanese against the Dutch. Banyumas was in the hands of the Dutch and princes and court warriors settled in Kauman while spreading the batik culture.
The development of Sokaraja batik was pioneered by various figures such as Hj Salim, Hj Arifin, Hj Muhni, Hj Dulmungin, and Hj Rosidiq in 1998. The industry was affected by the monetary crisis and 2000 entrepreneurs still rely on the Home industry. In 2003, Banyumas batik began to be developed again with the Banyumasan batik preservation program with the bupati's circular letter with the aim of encouraging MSMEs in the Banyumas area. The government has made efforts to promote batik in Banyumas, especially in the central Kauman Sokaraja area by providing a state budget of 250 million in 2004. Until now, batik has experienced ups and downs, especially during the leadership of President Jokowi. Bawor kember batik motif, and kali pelus batik motif. Each of these batik motifs has a deep meaning and is a characteristic of the Banyumas region, especially Sokaraja. The large number of batik industries in Kauman, contributes to increasing regional income and actively participates in introducing batik products typical of Banyumas Regency, especially Sokaraja batik.
