Abstract

This study aims to describe the mathematical creative thinking ability in solving HOTS problems in terms of self directed learning of students of SMP N 1 Sokaraja. This type of research used in this study is a qualitative description. The sample in this study were 6 students from class VII D obtained using purposive sampling. Students were divided into 3 categories namely high, medium, and low self directed learning. Data collection techniques using questionnaires, tests, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study indicate: (1) high self directed learning students mostly mastered three indicators of mathematical creative thinking ability, namely fluency, flexibility, and elaboration; (2) the students in the self-directed learning category are currently mastering the indicators of mathematical creative thinking skills, namely fluency, and sufficiently mastering the indicators of flexibility whereas; (3) low self directed learning category students cannot master the four indicators of mathematical creative thinking abilities, namely fluency, flexibility, originality and elaboration.
