This was a Classroom Action Research (CAR) which aimed to find out
children's language skills in recognizing the alphabet through big book media on
children in Group A of Pertiwi Kindergarten Kalimanah Wetan, Kalimanah Subdistrict,
Purbalingga Regency Academic Year 2019-2020. This research involved 20
children in Group A of Pertiwi Kindergarten consisting of 11 boys and 9 girls. This
research was conducted in two cycles with 3 meetings in each cycle. The method
used observation and the data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative
analysis.The results showed that there was an improvement of skill in recognizing
the alphabet in Group A of Pertiwi Kindergarten Kalimanah Wetan after the
implementation of recognizing the alphabet using big book media. That could be
proven from the observation results which found that at the beginning, there were 5
(25%) children that developed as expected, in cycle I improved to 10 (50%) children,
and in cycle II there were 5 (25%) children that developed well and 11 (75%)
children that developed as expected. In other words, the improvement was from 5%
at the beginning, 50% in cycle I and 80% in cycle II.
