Abstract

This research has two objectives, (1) describing the persuasive disclosures
contained in the Instagram captions belongs to @Garnieindonesia account in
September to October 2019, (2) describing the implementation of persuasive
disclosures on the Instagram caption of Garnier beauty product advertisements in
September to October 2019 for learning of persuasive text writing for grade VIII SMP
(Junior High School). This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The data in this
study are persuasive discourses on Instagram caption by @garnierindonesia account
for the period of September to October 2019. The data source is Instagram
(@garnierindonesia account) for the period of September to October 2019. The
research stage is divided into three, namely data provision, data analysis and
presentation of data analysis results. At the stage of providing data, the researcher
used the observation method with advanced techniques, namely observation
participatory and noting techniques. At the data analysis stage, the researcher used the
distributional technique with segmenting immediate constituent technique and an
advanced technique in the form of read-marker technique. At the stage of presenting
the results of data analysis, the researcher applied an informal method. Based on data
analysis, the following results were obtained: in the twenty-four captions of
@garnierindonesia Instagram account for the September-October 2019 period, there
were four persuasive disclosures with a total of 40 data. It includes (1) persuasive
disclosures of invitation totaling nineteen data, (2) persuasive disclosures of
suggestion totaling ten data, (3) persuasive disclosures of convincing totaling six data,
(4) persuasive disclosures of asserting as many as five data. The Instagram caption
contents belong to @garnierindonesia for the September to October 2019 period were
persuasive sentences; they were written by the writer which aimed to influence
readers. Persuasive disclosures in the Instagram captions of @garnierindonesia
Instagram for the September to October 2019 period can be implemented as teaching
material and examples in school learning, especially junior high schools.
