Abstract

The research entitled Teacher‟s Strategies in English Teaching and Learning Process during Covid-19 Pandemic in SMA Negeri 1 Karangkobar was aimed to find out the strategies used to teach English during the pandemic and the problems faced by the teachers. This research used a qualitative survey method. The subjects of this research were five English Teachers in SMA Negeri 1 Karangkobar. The researcher used questionnaire and interview as the instruments for collecting the data. The researcher found the average of Direct Teaching Strategy obtained 91.4% and was categorized as mostly used during the pandemic. Mastery Learning strategy obtained 52% which means more than a half teachers implemented it, and Cooperative Learning Strategy obtained 7.5% which means this strategy was very rarely used by the teachers during the pandemic. Direct teaching strategy become the most dominant strategy used by the teachers. Some problems faced by the English teachers during online learning process were their difficulty to make students understand the material, their difficulty to emphasize on students‟ mastery and students‟ less participation.
