Abstract

The grayak worm of Spodoptera litura is a major pest of soybeans that causes significant damage to farmers. Chemical insecticides are commonly used to manage them, but they have a lot of side effects, so it is important to research environmentally acceptable alternatives. The aim of the research is to determine the effect of pesticide and soybean varieties, as well as their interaction on the intensity of armyworm attack, soybean growth, and yield. The research was conducted at the Experimental Garden of the Faculty of Agriculture and Fisheries, Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto from September 2021 to November 2021. The research used a completely randomized design (CRD) with two components, Factor I and Factor II. Ring 1 (V1), Demas 1 (V2), and Dena 2 were the soybean varietals (V3) as Factor I. In Factor II, Controls of 5% papaya extract, 5% betel extract, and 40% metomil were among the pesticides tested. (1) Plant height 56 days after planting, number of filled pods, the total number of pods, number of seeds per plant, and weight of 100 seeds were all significantly affected by the varieties treatment. (2) Methomyl, a pesticide that may successfully suppress pest attack by 40 percent by 7.33 percent, creates a low assault intensity. (3) The best treatment combination was the Dering 1 variety combined with a methomyl-based insecticide, resulting in a seed weight of 36.86 g per plant.
