This research aimed to find out students' ability in writing descriptive text.
This research was designed as descriptive quantitative research, and it was
conducted at SMP Negeri 1 Bojongsari, which is located in Purbalingga. The
number of samples in this research was 40 students, and it used cluster random
sampling, which was taken from seventh-grade students. In this research, the
researcher used a writing test as the instrument for the research. The students were
asked to write a text based on the topic given to them. The researcher analyzing
five aspects the students' writing descriptive text: content, organization, grammar,
vocabulary, and mechanics. Then, two raters helped the researcher to measure the
students' writing skills. The analysis showed that students' total score was 77.5%
in the content aspect, and it can be classified as a very good category. In the
organization aspect, students' total score was 67.5%, classified as a very good
category. The students' total score was 75%, which can be classified as a very
good category in the grammar aspect. Students' total score was 73.75% in the
vocabulary aspect, which can be classified as a very good category. In the
mechanics aspect, students' total score was 47.5%, which can be classified as a
fair category. From those results, the researcher found that the overall students'
total score in writing the descriptive text was 69.93%, which means their writing
skills in the descriptive text can be categorized at a very good category.
