This study aimed to describe the types of social criticism in the Ketika Lampu Berwarna Merah novel by Hamsad Rangkuti as a sociology literature review. The research approach used by the researcher was the sociology of literature. The object of the research was the problem of social criticism in the novel Ketika Lampu Berwarna Merah by Hamsad Rangkuti. The data employed were the excerpts from texts or paragraphs that indicate the problem of social criticism in the novel Ketika Lampu Berwarna Merah by Hamsad Rangkuti, while the source of data in this study was the novel Ketika Lampu Berwarna Merah by Hamsad Rangkuti. The first printing was published by DIVA pres in May 2016 with 228 pages. The research revealed that the types of social criticism, were (1) criticism in the political field divided into three; criticism to officers who accept bribes, criticism to officers who make false promises, and criticism to irresponsible officers. (2) Criticism in the economic field is divided into three; criticism on poverty, criticism on the unfulfillment of life necessity, and criticism on the powerlessness of the underprivileged. (3) Criticism in the field of human rights violations is divided into five; criticism on the legal injustice, criticism on the loss of children's rights, criticism on food discrimination against the unprivileged, criticism on labor discrimination, and criticism on the arbitrariness of law enforcement. (4) Criticism in the field of power is divided into two; criticism on extortion of the poor and criticism of people who tell a lie.
