Abstract

This study was conducted to find out the grammatical errors and the most dominant grammatical error that students made in recount text. The design was descriptive quantitative research with inter-rater. The researcher used test as the data collection technique. The subjects of this study were students in grade 9 of SMP N 1 Kutasari Purbalingga, the sample consisted of 30 students with simple random sampling. The researcher found 124 total errors and 119 total errors from the second rater. The researcher found the grammatical errors 124 with each 58.9% error of simple past tense, 10.5% error of preposition, 17,8% error of personal pronouns, 9.6% error of word order, and 3.2% error of articles. Meanwhile, the second rater found total error of 119 with each 55,5% error of simple past tense, 13.44% error of preposition, 17.64% error of personal pronouns, 10.92% error of word order, and 2,5% error of articles. The most dominant type of grammatical error is simple past tense.
