This descriptive qualitative research aimed to find out the characters‟ emotions
and types of personality in Perahu Kertas novel by Dewi Lestari. The data were
collected using reading and note-taking techniques, then analyzed using data
reduction, data display, and conclusion. This research was literature psychology.
The result of characters emotions included: (1) the emotion of fear, shown by the
characters through the anxiety of things that would happen in the future; (2) the
emotion of jealousy, shown by the characters through hatred toward their rivals
and fear losing their loved one; (3) the emotion of happines, shown by the
characters by seing successful and free from tension; (5) the emotion of sadness
about being apart with the child and losing the smart student; (6) the emotion of
guilt, shown by the character by not telling the truth to her husband, being afraid
of telling the truth to her husband, not being able to tell the truth to his child, and
not being able to understand her best friend; (7) the emotion of embarrassment,
shown by the characters through the feeling of embarrassment about their skills;
(8) the emotion of love, shown by the characters through to the love to family,
friends, and spouse. Meanwhile, the results of characters types of personality
included: (1) introvert which was owned by Kugy, Adri, and Lena; and (2)
extrovert which was owned by Keenan, Wanda, Noni, Joshua, and Remi.
