Abstract

This research is entitled character emotions in Padang Bulan Novel by Andrea Hirata. It aimed to describe the character emotions and personality types in the Padang Bulan novel by Andrea Hirata. The research type was qualitative descriptive. The approach implemented was a psychological approach to literature. The data were text quotes that showed the emotions of the characters in the Padang Bulan novel by Andrea Hirata. Data collection techniques implemented reading and note-taking techniques. The results in Padang Bulan novel by Andrea Hirata showed (1) emotions experienced by the characters such as (a) happiness in the form of joy and pride; (b) emotion of love in the form of loving boy/girlfriend and a brother to a sister; (c) sad emotions in the form of losing a father, losing togetherness with family, losing youth, losing as part of a course participant, and losing togetherness with a lover; (d) fear emotions in the form of anxiety and phobia of animals; (e) emotion of shame in the form of bothering friends, having many shortcomings, losing a chess match, having a short stature, planning growth projects, and being treated like a child; (f) guilty emotions in the form of disobeying parental orders, leaving parents, and providing wrong information; (g) angry emotions in the form of anger that harmed oneself, anger that harmed others, and anger with silent actions; and (h) the emotion of hatred in the form of beating Zinar in a chess game. (2) The personality types discovered were (a) the introverted personality of Ikal and A Ling; (b) the extroverted personality of the Enong, Zamzami, Syalimah, M. Nur detective, and Lim Phok characters.
