The study aimed to improve the early literacy skill through fishing for
letters game of second-year students of Aisyiyah Kindergarten Kedungwuluh
Lor, Patikraja District, Banyumas Regency, Odd Semester, Academic Year
2019-2020. This classroom action research was conducted in 2 cycles and
each cycle ran in 3 meetings. Subjects in this study were group of secondyear
Aisyiyah kindergarten Kedungwuluh Lor, aged 5-6 years, consisted of 15
children from 7 females and 8 males. The research object was early literacy
skills through fishing for letters game.
Data collection techniques in this study were observation and
documentation. The research instruments used were observation sheets of
teachers and students. The data analysis technique applied descriptive
quantitative and qualitative approaches. The results indicated that early
literacy skills could be improved through the fishing for letters game.
Children were invited to play fishing for letters, read pictures available on
the cards, read the letters that are on the cards and arrange them into one
so it was readable.
Early literacy skill of the preliminary study illustrated that the
percentage of children categorized in developing group as the expectation
was 13% only and well developed reached 7%, then in Cycle I the
percentage of early literacy skill of children in developing category as
expectations increased to 46% and well developed was still in 7%, and Cycle
II the percentage of children's early literacy skill
