Batik arts can be seen in various cities around Indonesia, particularly on the island of Java. Banyumas is one of the districts in Central Java. The motifs on Banyumas batik cloth have specific meanings and messages that are distinct from those of motifs in other areas. In ancient times, It was a tradition to wear batik in accordance with the values and the meanings included in the motifs of the batik. There is also a history in Banyumas of using batik motifs based on their value and meaning. The purpose of this research was to discuss the history of batik in Banyumas, the value and meaning of the Banyumas batik motif, and the tradition of wearing specific Banyumas batik patterns in accordance with its meaning and value. This study was conducted using the historical method, which is a way of analyzing events that occurred in the past, in order to meet the research objectives. The steps are as follows: 1. Heuristics (Stage of finding and collecting sources). 2. Criticism, which is divided into two types at this stage: external criticism (source authenticity) and internal criticism (criticism in terms of credibility). 3. Interpretation, or the process of analyzing and compiling data. 4. The step of writing history is known as historiography. According to the findings of this study, Banyumas batik arose as a result of the dynamics of a vast monarchy on the island of Java, the Islamic Mataram Kingdom. The majority of Banyuma's original batik motifs have never been used before. Several batik motifs, on the other hand, have a long history of use. This is due to the fact that the original Banyumas batik motif is a reflection of people's lives. This differs from the Jogja Solo batik motif, which is a relic of the Islamic Mataram Kingdom and has regulations for wearing patterns based on their value and meaning.
