Abstract

Character education is an important factor in education to shape the character
of students. Character education fosters good habits and behavior of students through
stages that start from being taught, accustomed to, consistently trained, become habits,
and formed characters. This study aims to (1) describe the understanding of Grade VII
Indonesian Language Teachers on Strengthening Character Education in Public
Middle Schools in Banyumas Regency, and (2) describe the Application of
Strengthening Character Education in the preparation of Plans for the Implementation
of Class VII Indonesian Language Literature in Junior High Schools in Banyumas
Regency. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The data in this study are the
character values listed in the Indonesian Language Literature the preparation of the
Implementation Plan Class VII in State Junior High Schools in Banyumas Regency.
While the source of the data is Indonesian Language Literature RPP Class VII in
Public Middle Schools in Banyumas Regency. The research methods and techniques
are detailed in three stages of research, namely: the stage of data collection (interview
and documentation techniques) and the stage of analyzing data (reduction, display,
conclusion drawing). The results of this study indicate that Indonesian Language
Teachers understand the basic or concept of strengthening character education, then
the Implementation Plan for Indonesian Language Learning Class VII Literature in
State Junior High Schools in Banyumas Regency contains character values based on
the criteria for strengthening character education. Based on data analysis and
discussion, it can be concluded that: (1) Class VII Indonesian Language Teacher's
Understanding of Strengthening Character Education, shows a positive thing, which
integrates character education material into their teaching and learning materials,
character education is considered as the essence value in shape and fortify learners'
personalities. Furthermore (2) the Application of Strengthening Character Education
in the preparation of the Implementation Plan for Indonesian Language Literature
Texts for Class VII in Public Middle Schools in Banyumas Regency there are values
for Strengthening Character Education including: (religious, nationalist, integrity,
independent, and mutual cooperation).
