Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of game techniques on motivation and reading ability of students in class II of Sokanandi Public Elementary School. This study uses a quantitative approach with quasi experimental methods. The design used is nonequivalent control group design. The population of this study were all class II students of SD Negeri I Sokanandi which numbered 50 students. The sample of the experimental group is class II A students while the control group is class II B. The research data was collected using a learning motivation questionnaire and a test of the ability to read short stories. Questionnaires are used in the form of an attitude scale consisting of 10 items to find out the learning motivation and reading ability in the form of description questions that are used to determine students' reading skills. Data were analyzed using t test. The results of the statistical analysis of the independent sample t-test students' learning motivation value of t count showed a number of 6.042 while the t table value of the confidence level of 95% amounted to 1.710 So t count> t table (6.042> 1.710) which means the hypothesis that the application of game techniques has an influence which is significant in increasing student motivation in class II SD Negeri 1 Sokanandi. The application of game techniques to reading learning has a significant influence on students' ability to read short stories. Based on the results of the statistical analysis of independent sample t-test the ability to read t count is
3.43 while the value of t table at the 95% level of confidence shows a number of 1.677 So t count> t table (3.043> 1.677) which means the hypothesis that the application of game techniques has an influence significant to the reading ability of class II SD Negeri 1 Sokanandi.
