Mathematical literacy skill is a skill about how to use mathematics in real
life. This research aimed to describe the student's mathematical literacy skill
viewed from their attention. The subjects of this research were the eighth grade
students of Class A in SMP Negeri 3 Bukateja. A questionnaire of student's
attention was used to decide the samples which chose 3 students in low attention
group, 3 students in medium attention group, and 3 students in high attention
group. The data were collected using test and interview, and analyzed using Miles
and Huberman model which included data reduction, data display, and
conclusion. The results showed differences of mathematical literacy skill of
students in low, medium, and high attention group. Students with low attention
showed their skill on the indicator of formulating real life problem into
mathematics language and presenting mathematical situation using picture even
though it was not perfect. Students with medium attention showed their skill on all
indicators such as formulating real life problem into mathematical language,
expressing flexible opinion based on context, presenting mathematical situation
using picture, applying strategy to get mathematics solution, using mathematics
symbols, interpreting mathematics solution into real life situation, and giving
reason of the interpretation although it was not perfect. Students with high
attention showed their skill on the indicators of formulation real life problem into
mathematics language, presenting mathematical situation using picture, applying
strategy to get mathematics solution, using mathematics symbols, interpreting
mathematics solution into real life situation, and giving reason of the
interpretation although it was not perfect yet.
