Abstract

Cabbage is one of the vegetable commodities that can grow and produce well
in Indonesia and is included in the export commodity. A large amount of cabbage
exports in Indonesia has attracted interest in several regions in Indonesia such as
Karangreja Subdistrict, Purbalingga Regency to cultivate cabbages because they are
considered to have ease in terms of marketing. The objective of this study was to
determine: 1) pattern of cabbage distribution access; 2) socioeconomic problems that
occur and the solutions offered in cabbage farming; and 3) structure, conduct, and
performance of cabbage marketing in Karangreja Sub-district of Purbalingga
Regency. The method used in this study is a survey. Site selection is done purposively.
Respondents were taken using a purposive sampling method determined using Slovin
formula with the results of 42 farmers and 20 cabbage traders. The study was
conducted for four months, from April to July 2019.
It can be concluded that: 1) There are seven patterns of cabbage distribution
access in Karangreja Sub-District; 2) Socio-economic problems that exist in cabbage
farming, namely the problem of narrow land, minimal capital, limited technology,
less optimal management, low human resources and simple post-harvest; and 3)
Structural analysis of the market share formed by the largest collectors, namely
25.21% and the largest retail market share at 30.88%, while the CR4 concentration
ratio of the collectors and retailers forms the market is the oligopsony market, while
the Herfindahl Index on collectors and retailers show a strong oligopsony market. In
the conducted analysis of the activities carried out namely sales and purchasing
activities, pricing strategies, cooperation between marketing institutions, and
marketing functions, meanwhile in the analysis of performance, the largest amount of
trading margins is found in the 7th pattern with a total margin of Rp.6,300 / Kg and
the trading system pattern that has the smallest margin is the 2nd commerce pattern
with a total margin of Rp.2,619 / Kg, the portion received by the farmer (farmer
share) from cabbage commerce in Karangreja Sub-District which is the largest that
is in the trading 4 patterns of 58, 36%, and the smallest one is in the trading system 1
pattern of 45.03%.
