The effort to keep stability of food security is by assuring the availability of food that is done through theimprovement of food commodity production. To ensure the national food security, it is expected that every regioncan develop the potential of their food commodity production so the regional and national need of food can befulfilled. The development of this commodity is expected to be able to balance the amount of people that keeprising. This research aimed to find out the commodity of paddy and corn in supporting food security in Sumbangsub-district of Banyumas regency, and to find out the basic and non-basic sector in that sub district.
This was a descriptive quantitative research that used secondary and primary data taken from BPS (StatisticsIndonesia), DISPERTAN (Department of Agriculture), and BAPELUH (Extension Agency) and analyzed usingFood Security Index, Location Quotient (LQ),Growth Ratio Model and Overlay Analysis.The results from the counting of Food Security Index showed an effect between the condition of harvest and thecondition of food security but not entirely. The value of food security in Sumbang sub-district was < 1, becauseno matter how high the surplus value was, there were only certain classes of people who could consume it.Meanwhile, the results of overlay between Location Quotient and Growth Ratio Model was the development ofpaddy and corn field commodity that had fast growth so their role could give potential contribution in their area.
