Ethyl acetate fraction of corn ethanol extract (Zea mays L.) has sunscreen
activity with SPF value of 37.275. This study aims to determine the physical
properties, stability and sunscreen activity of ethyl acetate fraction cream of
ethanol extract of corn silk. Corn silk was extracted using 96% ethanol, by using
maceration method and fractionated with ethyl acetate. The extracts were
formulated into 3 M/A type cream formulas with a concentration of 0.1; 1; and
10%. The cream tested the physical properties, stability and sunscreen activity
with a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The results showed all the cream preparations
of the ethyl acetate fraction ethanol extract of corn silk, meeting the adhesive,
scatterness, pH, and cream viscosity requirements. The cream of ethyl acetate
fraction ethanol extract of corn silk is stable in terms of organoleptis,
homogeneity, pH and viscosity and does not experience phase separation. The
cream of ethyl acetate fraction of corn silk ethanol extract with 10% concentration
has activity as sunscreen with SPF value of 23.885 belonging to ultra-protection
type and its activity is equal to positive control.
