Abstract

The improve of globalization current, the sophisticated pharmacy and
medical technology, opened market, the change of life style cause the change of
people demand towards pharmacy service in Pharmacy that is not only oriented to
the medicine yet oriented to the patients, thus pharmacist is expected to give best
services based on the pharmacist community competence standard that was design
by BPP-ISFI in which to fulfill the standard of pharmacy service in Pharmacy and
Good Practice Pharmacy (GPP) demanding pharmacist’s dominant role of time
and competence in community’s Pharmacy. Therefore, this research was
conducted to know the effectiveness of community pharmacy practice as an effort
to improve pharmacy students’ competence and knowledge of pharmacy services
in Pharmacy at post-practice. This quasy experimental research was conducted in
2015 on 74 pharmacy students University of Muhammadiyah Purwokerto; 33
students were the respondents who joined the community pharmacy practice and
41 students were respondents who did not join the practice, further both parties’
knowledge and motivation of profession in Pharmacy were compared. The
instrument to collect the reserch data was through questionnaire that was design
based on each variable’s indicator. The data analysis that was through descriptive
quantitative showed that on the students who joined the comunity pharmacy
practice, there were 24 students (72,7%) in good knowledge, 9 students (27,3%)
in lack category, whereas from 41 students who did ot join the practice in
Pharmacy thee were 18 students (43,9%) in good knowledge and 23 students
(56,1%) in lack category, on motivation variable for the students who joined the
community pharmacy practice, there were 17 students (51,5%) in high motivation,
16 students (48,5%) in low motivation, in the other hand for the students who did
not join the practice there were 23 students (56,1%) in high motivation, 18
students (43,9%) in low motivation in doing the profession practice in Pharmacy.
As mentioned above, it could be concluded that the community pharmacy practice
affected students’ knowladge in giving pharmacy service in Pharmacy with pvalue
0,013 yet yhe practice did not affect students’ motivation to do profession
practice in Pharmacy as p-value was 0,694.
