Angels & Demons novel is the first Dan Brown’s novel that introduces the
character of Robert Langdon. This novel consists of information concerning with
Roman Catholic Church in Vatican City and the ancient brotherhood of Illuminati. In
this research, the main issue is deconstruction of dominant position of Vatican
Church. Deconstruction of the dominant Vatican Church towards the existence of
Illuminati becomes the big theme of the research.
This research uses deconstruction approach with the theory of poststructuralism.
It becomes important because in the process of analysis, this research
applies deconstruction to find answers of the research problem. The analysis that is
done through deconstruction reading enable to discover information that Vatican
Church’s indoctrination is inaccurate which is not appropriate with scientific
inventions; the religious worships of Vatican Church are adopted from ancient
paganism rituals; the Vatican Church broaden its hatred towards Illuminati through
spreading the falsehood to the public in order to let the public avoid Illuminati
members; the Vatican Church murder and brand the Illuminati members’ bodies with
cross symbol (incident of La Purga); it is known that the Illuminati members are not
satanic but scientists. By discovering those facts, the Vatican Church is valued not to
be institution that aware of humanity. In vice versa, Illuminati is not same as what
Vatican Church accuse. Illuminati grow up to now and start to broaden its dominance
over the Vatican church and even the world.
