Abstract

Mung bean sprouts is a vegetable that comes from the seeds of green bean plants
(Phaseolus radiatus L.). The sprouts obtained after seed germination for several days.
The sprouts is quite small compared with other vegetables, however with the contents
in it, this plant has a huge benefit for humans. One of the alleged content of sprouts is
the presence of vitamin E (tocopherol), which has a function as antioxidants and also
have the effect of helping hair growth. Maceration method used to extract the vitamin
E contained in the sprouts, whereas the method used to ensure the content of vitamin
E in the sprouts it used thin layer chromatography method, by comparing the distance
eluation extracts obtained with alpha tocopherol pa (Merck). To determine the effect
of vitamin E in an average increase in hair growth, the test animals used male rabbits
Australian strains and methods used are observation and measurement, data obtained
on the average, and calculated the potential acceleration of the average growth of hair
every day. Filtrate obtained pale yellow, Rf values obtained for the sample as well as
a comparison of alpha tocopherol pa (Merck) is 0.6. While the potential acceleration
of the average growth of hair every day is 100 %. Based on the results of this study
can be concluded sprouts green beans (Phaseolus radiatus L.) is suspected to contain
vitamin E, and the effect on the average increase in hair growth in male rabbits
Australian strains.
