This research aimed to study the meaningfulness of life on scavenger in landfill at Kedungrandu Patikraja District Banyumas Regency
This research used descriptive qualitative study method. Primary informants in this research were ten scavengers and 10 secondary informants. This qualitative research used purposive sampling technique by determining the subject and object purposively. Researcher tended to find informants who were considered trustworthy and knowledgeable as data source and had deep understanding about the meaningfulness of life.
The result showed that the twenty informants could understand the meaning of their life. It also showed that the scavengers had the meaningfulness of life suit with the aspects of the meaningfulness of life covering freedom of will, will to live in purpose, and the essence of life. The scavenger felt that they had freedom in choosing their stance that could make them take a distance for themselves with responsibility. Scavengers had their own role to make their own destiny. However, with their limitation, despite working by searching and collecting discarded waste, they lived their life spiritfully with clear purpose, and felt the progress they made. They have positive meaning for life, they were graceful, neither grieving nor complaining. They live as what it is and blissful.
