Scouting education teaches adolescents to be pious and glorious as well as high nationality. This education supports as the complementary or supplementary to the formal education. Thus, this research has importance to deliver the importance of scouting to the students about character building. The aim of this research was to find out the role of scouting in creating character building to the students in SMAN 1 Belik, to observe the handicaps obtained in transferring character building in SMAN 1 Belik, and reveal the school's response to overcome the problem through scouting in SMAN 1 Belik. The researcher applied qualitative approach of analytic descriptive method. For collecting the data, observation, interview and documentation was applied in this research. The subject of this research was scouting couch, counseling teacher, students' division, scouting management, civic education teachers, and students of SMAN 1 Belik.
Based on the research, it is revealed that the role of scouting in creating character building was to make the students more discipline, responsible and autonomous. The handicaps obtained were the students who did not understand about the importance of character building, environments effect, and unsupported infrastructure. The school tried to give punishment and warning to the students, provided with bonus score, completed infrastructure to improve character building.
