This research entitled “The Change of Javanese Loanwords in Bahasa
Indonesia in Banyumas Daily Newspaper October-December 2014 Editions” animed
to describe the kinds of change in meanings and causative factors of Javanese
Loandwords in Bahasa Indonesia in Banyumas Daily Newspaper October-December
2014 Editions.
This was a descriptive qualitative research with changes in meanings and
causative factors of Javanese Loandwords in Bahasa Indonesia in Banyumas Daily
Newspaper October 1st-December 31st, 2014 Editions as the data sources of this
research. The methods of this research were 1) data provision, 2) data analysis, and 3)
data presentation.
The results of this research showed that the change of meanings from 117
Javanese loanwords in Bahasa in the newspaper found there were 8 changes if
meanings. The details of those data were 1) 51 expanded changes of meaning
(generalization), 2) 19 narrowed changes of meanings (specialization), 3) 29 total
changes, 4) 2 coarsening, 5) 3 elevations (amelioration), 6) 2 reducations (peyorasi),
7) 2 metonymy, and 8) 9 equations (association). There were 10 causative factors of
these 117 Javanese loandwords found; they were 1) 38 development in science and
technology, 2) 47 development in social culture, 3) 4 differences in terms of usage, 4)
8 associations, 5) 1 difference of response, 6) 4 changes of meanings due to compound
words, 7) 3 linguistics factors (causes), 8) 8 historical factors (causes), 9) 2
psychological factors (causes), and 10) 2 coincidence.
