Abstract
Background : Diabetes mellitus was a disease caused by reducing of insulin which was produced by pancreas. Diabetes mellitus is treated with insulin injection and oral medication. In the other side, this disease is often treated with use traditional plants. One of the plants is Pterocarpus indicus leaves(Pterocarpus indicus Willd). The utilization hasn’t proved scientificly. Therfore, the research was done to get scientificly data and evidence about it.
Objectives : The aims of the research are to determine the influence of etanolic extract of Pterocarpus indicus leaves to the glucose blood level in rabbits, compare the potencialy of etanolic extract of Pterocarpus indicus leaves with glibenclamid for reducing the glucose blood level, and validation of the visible spectrofotometri method to glucose blood analyze.
Method : The research was a pure experimental that has an aim to know a symptom or effect of a certain treatment with complete random design pattern using oral glucose tolerance test (OGGT) method.
Results : Ethanolic extract of Angsana leaves had been made in dark green, a distinctive odorof of angsana leaves. Those concentration of extract influence to reducing glucose blood level. The result of anava showed that the glucose blood level in male rabbits with glucose pre-loaded can be decreased by the 30%, 50%, and 70% etanolic extract of Pterocarpus indicus leaves significantly the rabbit glucose blood level, p = 0,008 (p<0,05).
Conclusion : Concentration of 30%,50%, and 70% ethanolic extract of Pterocarpus indicus (Willd) have linear corelation with the glucose blood level. The greater of ethanolic extract of Pterocarpus indicus leaves concentration caused greater of reduce blood glucose level effectivelly. So, it can be concluded that the etanolic extract of angsana leaves have hypoglycemic activity.
