The aim of this research was to know the effectiveness of index card match
and card sort for teaching vocabulary to the eight grade students of SMP N 1 Kebasen
in academic year 2012/2013.
This research was experimental research. The subject of this research was 59
respondents which were divided into two groups, namely experimental and control
group. In collecting the data, pre-test and post-test were used to find out the effect of
the treatment given to the experimental and control class. The test given was in the
form of objective test, especially multiple choices and matching test. In analyzing the
data, t-test was used to obtain the result of the treatment.
Based on the computation, the result of t-test was 2.87 while the value of ttable
was 2.0004 with df=57. It meant that the result of t-test was higher than the
value of t-table (2.87 > 2.004) which showed that hypothesis made was acceptable.
Thus, it can be said that index card match and card sort were effective for teaching
vocabulary.
