This research was aimed at knowing the perception of accounting students
regarding different profession preference. In this research, the students’ perception
was examined through salary variable, professional training, professional
acknowledgement, social values, work environment, labor market consideration,
and personality.
The data collection was done through questionnaire distribution to the
accounting students at University of MuhammadiyahPurwokerto and University
of JenderalSoedirman. There were 90 respondents as samples. The data analysis
used in this research was Kruskall-Wallis test wich help of SPSS.
The result of analysis showed no different perceptions of the students
regarding the career selection viewed from salary, professional training,
professional acknowledgement, social values, work environment, labor market
consideration, and personality. Meanwhile, viewed from social values, there was
different perception of the students. The result of this research might give
additional point in improving the teaching quality so that the greduate’s quality
would increase as the intellectual employee that are ready and match the market
needs as well as help to implement the curiculum that is relevant to the work word
nowadays into the accounting education.
