The study was carried out to know students’ competence in writing descriptive text and to know the grammatical problems made by sixth semester students of English Department of Muhammadiyah University of Purwokerto.
Descriptive quantitative was used as a method of this research. The subject of this study was sixth semester students of English Department of MuhammadiyahUniveristy of Purwokerto. The writer took 30 students as the sample. The data were collected through writing test.
The result of the research showed that there were 50% of students who got very good and good score and no one got fair, bad and very bad score. Moreover, there were 5 grammatical problems faced by the students in writing descriptive text, namely: subject and verb agreement, article, gerund, preposition and adverb.
