Abstract

This study aimed to improve the students' honesty and ability of mathematical
representation in grade VIIC of SMP Negeri 2 Pekuncen through direct learning
with guided note taking strategy. The subject of this studywere 36 students of
class VII C SMP Negeri 2 Pekuncen consisting of 20 female students and 16 male
students. This was a Classroom Action Research conducted in 3 cycles, each cycle
consisted of 2 meetings. The first meeting was conducted in 2 x 40 minutes used
for the learning process and the second meeting was conducted in 3 x 40 minutes
used 2 x 40 minutes for the learning process and 1 x 40 minutes for cycle
evaluation test. Each cycle was conducted through planning, implementing,
observing, evaluating, and reflecting phases. Results of the honesty questionnaire
showed that average score obtained in cycle 1 was 59.64; average score in cycle 2
was 69.96; and average score in cycle 3 was 73.06. In addition, Results of
students mathematical representation ability indicated that average score obtained
in cycle 1 was 52,03; average score in cycle 2 was 60.19; and average score in
cycle 3 was 74.04. It is concluded that direct learning with guided note taking
strategy can improve the students' honesty and mathematical representation ability
in the class.
