The aim of the study was to find out the problems faced by the students
of the first years of SMP NEGERI 4 WANASARI in the use of English for daily
communication in school area.
The research was conducted in October 2011 at SMP Negeri 4 Wanasari
– Brebes academic year 2010/2011, consisting of five classes. The total number of
the population was 200 students. The writer took 30 students ( 15 % ) as the
sample. To obtain the sample, the writer used proportional random sampling. The
method was descriptive quantitative. The instrument in collecting the data used
test.
After data have been computed, it reveals that the first year students of
SMP Negeri 4 Wanasari – Brebes belong to categories have problems (70.17 %),
the problems are: fluency (30.30 %), grammar (32.97 %), vocabulary (40.54%),
and pronunciation (50.00%) based on the categories above, it is known that
concentration is determinant factors being faced in speaking problem at SMP
Negeri 4 Wanasari – Brebes. So, the solution toward the problem that student
should study occasionally to improve knowledge and science, try to find the best
way to understand the material.
