Abstract

The aim of the research was to find out the effectiveness of Pictionary in teaching
vocabulary. This research used quasi experimental method in which the sample was not
chosen randomly but based on the school policy. Two classes were chosen, seventh A as the
experimental class and seventh B as the control class.Pre-test and post-test were used to find
the data. The test was in multiple-choice forms consisting of 30 items for each test. T-test
formula was used to analyze the data.The result of the research showed that there was a
significant difference of the students’ ability in mastering vocabulary between the students
who were taught using Pictionary and those who were not taught using the medium.It could
be seen on the result of computation of t-test, where t-result is 5,701 and t-table is 1.667 at
the significant levelα=0.05 in df=74. The result was higher than t-table (5.701> 1.667). It
means that the hypothesis that Pictionary is effective in teaching English vocabulary was
accepted.
