Abstract

The main objective of the research was to improve students‟ speaking
ability in English teaching learning process by use of PowerPoint. The research
was carried out of SMP N 4 Kroya in Academic Year 2013/2014. The research
used Classroom Action. The subjects of the research were VIII F students. This
action research was conducted in two cycles, each of which involved the steps:
planning, acting, observing and reflecting. Observation, questionnaire, interview,
documentation, and test were used for collecting the data. The data analysis
resulted in the conclusion that PowerPoint was able to improve students‟ speaking
ability. This conclusion was proved in post-test 1 as great as 17.24% toward pretest;
in post-test 2 as great as 55.17% toward post-test 1. The observation result
showed that the total average of students‟ activities in Cycle 1 was 31.04%,
whereas that in Cycle 2 was 94.84%. Thus, the improvement of students‟
activities was 63.80%. The questionnaire result showed 78.62% of the students
felt happy in teaching learning speaking using PowerPoint. Overall, the research
showed that the use of PowerPoint could improve students‟ speaking ability.
